Miss Universe 2022 has been named as R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States.
Miss Universe 2022: Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, the current Miss Universe 2021, crowned R’Bonney Gabriel, the current Miss USA, as her successor at the 71st Miss Universe pageant, which was held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
At this year’s pageant, competitors came from over 84 different nations.
The Miss Dominican Republic was named the second runner-up, with Miss Venezuela named the first runner-up.
Amanda Dudamel of Venezuela took home the top place in the most recent tournament, and Andrena Martnez of the Dominican Republic took home second place.
In order to succeed 2021 Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu, who won the crown in the pageant’s 70th edition held in Israel in December 2021 as the third winner from India, Gabriel, who is part-Filipino and works as a fashion designer, defeated 82 other contenders.
Miss Universe 2022: Sandhu holds the Miss Universe crown for more than a year, making her one of the longest-reigning winners in the competition’s history. The competition in New Orleans is regarded as the contest’s 2022 edition because there was no pageant staged the previous year.
After Thai media tycoon Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip of the Bangkok-based JKN Global Group gained full ownership of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) in October of last year, this month’s competition staging is a transitional edition for the organization.
Jakrajutatip is the first non-American and transwoman to own the MUO, and she also owns the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA pageants.
With Amy Emerich serving as CEO and Paula Shugart serving as president, the MUO now has an all-female top executive staff. The selection committee for the Miss Universe competition in 2022 was made up exclusively of women, and it included Olivia Quido-Co, a Filipina who works in skincare in the US.
The delegates wore the “Maureen” strappy shoes, which Filipino 2021 Miss Globe Maureen Montagne served as inspiration for, in their second cooperation with the Miss Universe competition.
Given that the 2023 Miss Universe pageant, the 72nd iteration of the international competition, is anticipated to take place before the year is out, Gabriel should expect to have a short reign.
El Salvador will serve as the host country for the 72nd edition of the competition. The competition period is anticipated to last for roughly a month, and discussions are already underway for the nations that will host Miss Universe in 2024 and 2025.
