California: The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that at least 10 persons were shot and killed on Saturday night near Monterey Park, California.

According to Capt. Andrew Meyer of the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, which is supporting Monterey Park Police with their investigation, an additional 10 persons were injured and sent to nearby hospitals. He noted that while some of the injured were in severe condition, others were stable.
This weekend, the Lunar New Year Festival in Monterey Park, a Los Angeles suburb, will usher in the Chinese lunar calendar.
According to Meyer, the alleged shooter fled the area and is currently at large.

According to the city, the two-day street festival is well attended, with prior events drawing as many as 100,000 people per day. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that over 65% of Monterey Park’s 60,000 inhabitants identify as Asian Americans.
The activities on Saturday were supposed to end at nine o’clock.
